In today’s world, with the increased use of the Internet, you can never be too safe on your computer. Part of keeping your computer free of viruses and taking the proper precautions is to back up all the files on your computer. Sure, you know that backing up your files is important, but few people actually go about it and back up their files. Here are a few ways you can back up your important files.
- Network-attached storage. Chances are you may not have heard of this option before. Up until recently, businesses primarily used this backup method more than individuals. Now, you can use this type of storage for your home computer, as well. Network-attached storage connects to the outside of your PC but works through your wireless network. This is especially useful if you have file sharing among the PCs in your house.
- External hard drive. This is the most common way for backing up computers. Similar to a network-attached storage, an external hard drive connects to the outside of your computer. Most come with software that will allow you to back up your files quickly, easily, and regularly.
- Backup software. There are plenty of backup software options available to help you keep your files safe. You can find software like Time Machine or Seagate FreeAgent that will provide the means to back up your files. Some software actually lets you back up via the Internet, giving you access when you are away from your computer.
- Online services. There are also online storage options to choose from. Many people like the convenience of online storage tools. You can choose a company like Mozy or Dropbox, if you want to use an online tool. If you have small amounts of files to back up, Dropbox offers a free option of 2 GB.
With these options, you have no reason not to back up your important files. While backing up your data make sure that you back up your songs and audio files. Most of the time, the audio files created with tools like Audacity get stored in default application folders rather than in the documents folder. Also, do not forget backing up your FireFox bookmarks and your ebooks that you would have probably saved using Calibre e-book management tool.
